Transitional Kindergarten

Transitional Kindergarten:

We welcome four-year-old children , who turn four years of age by September 1, to enroll in our Transitional Kindergarten program. While TK is not mandatory, it is universally available and free of cost for all families. 

In Rincon Valley, all teachers are fully credentialed with additional Early Child Education units, and each classroom of about 20 learners also has a full-time instructional paraeducator. We utilize a curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate, based on California Preschool/Transitional Kindergarten Learning Foundations (PTKLF) and California Preschool Curriculum Frameworks. 

The TK program focuses largely on language and literacy activities, early math skills, and critical social development through interest-based themed units. It provides a positive, nurturing segway into a child’s academic career, where they learn to love school, interact with peers and communicate their needs to peers and adults. The daily schedule includes whole group instruction and activities, small group instruction based on individual needs, and independent "hands-on” learning through exploration and inquiry. All TK learners will also enjoy outdoor recess, snack, lunch, rest/nap time, music, art, science, field trips, and motor skills development. In addition, learners residing within the Rincon Valley School District boundary have access to District bus transportation to and from school. 

Note: If TK is not the appropriate option for your child, you may choose to explore other options such as California State Preschool Program, Head Start, private preschool or other prekindergarten programs.
