Make a Difference in Our Schools
We appreciate your interest in volunteering with the Rincon Valley Union School District! Our volunteers play an important role in supporting our students, staff, and school communities.
We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities throughout the District. Whether you would like to help in a classroom, support a school activity, assist with special events, or contribute your time in another way, we are grateful for your willingness to serve our schools.
In compliance with Senate Bill 848, we have implemented new volunteer requirements listed below.
Interested in Volunteering?
If you are interested in volunteering at your child’s school, please connect with your student’s teacher, the School Office Manager, or a school Administrator. The school will provide you with a flyer that includes a link to the volunteer application and information about the next steps.
We appreciate your interest in supporting our students and school community!
Who Is a Volunteer?
A volunteer is an individual who provides service to the District without receiving monetary compensation from the District. Volunteers may include parents or guardians, District employees, family members, or community members.
Volunteers must be 18 years or older.
All volunteers must complete the District’s volunteer approval process and receive District approval before beginning service. Volunteer approval must be renewed each school year.
Volunteer Approval Process
Please complete the following steps in the order provided. Mandated Reporter Training and TB clearance must be completed before submitting your volunteer application.
1. Complete Mandated Reporter Training
Before submitting your volunteer application, all prospective volunteers must complete the District-required Mandated Reporter Training.
This training must be completed each school year. Please have your Certificate of Completion ready to upload with your application.
2. Obtain TB Clearance
Before submitting your volunteer application, obtain TB clearance independently through your own medical provider.
Your provider must complete the required TB Risk Assessment form or provide proof of TB clearance.
You do not necessarily need to have a TB test. Your provider will determine whether a TB test or other follow-up is needed based on the assessment.
Please contact your medical provider to find out how they would like you to complete this process. Keep your completed TB clearance documentation ready to upload.
3. Submit Your Application
After completing Mandated Reporter Training and obtaining your TB clearance, complete the online volunteer application.
As part of the application:
- Upload your completed TB clearance documentation, if required for your assignment.
- Upload a valid government-issued identification document.
- Enter your information exactly as it appears on your identification, including your full legal name and other identifying information.
4. District Review & Fingerprinting
After your application is submitted, the District will review your information and determine whether any additional requirements apply to your volunteer assignment.
Fingerprinting is required for all field trip volunteers and for any volunteer who will be alone with students or otherwise working with students outside the direct supervision of a certificated District employee.
If fingerprinting is required, the District will email you instructions and the necessary fingerprinting form using the email address provided in your application.
The District asks that volunteers who are able to cover the cost of fingerprinting please do so. If the cost would be a financial hardship, please let us know. We will assist with the cost.
- If the District is covering the cost: Fingerprinting must be completed at the UPS Store on Calistoga Road using the District’s instructions.
- If you are covering the cost: You may take the District’s fingerprinting form to any Live Scan location in Sonoma County. Rolling fees vary by location. Current fees are approximately:
- Rolling fee: $25–$45
- California Department of Justice (DOJ): $32
- Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI): $17, required only if you have not lived in California for the past two years.
Please wait for the District’s email instructions before completing fingerprinting.
5. Receive District Approval
The District will notify you once you have completed the applicable requirements and are approved to begin your volunteer service.
Submitting an application does not automatically authorize an individual to volunteer. You may begin volunteering only after receiving District approval and completing all requirements applicable to your assignment.
What Happens After I Apply?
- Application Received: Your application will be reviewed by the District.
- Application Review: The District will review your information and documentation.
- Additional Requirements: If required, you will receive instructions for completing fingerprinting or other applicable steps.
- Approval: Once all requirements have been completed and your application has been approved, you will receive instructions regarding your volunteer assignment.
- Start Volunteering: You may begin volunteering once you have received District approval and instructions to begin.
